Indian Railways Seat Availibility

May 3rd, 2012 Comments off

Indian Railways Seat Availibility, Irctc Seat Availibility for trains between two stations :

One can easily get the Indian Railways Reservation status of the ticket from the details provided in the ticket. It is clearly indicated and printed on the ticket. In case of the confirmed ticket, the coach and berth numbers are mentioned on the ticket in all classes except first class and AC first class. In these classes, the word “Confirmed” is printed alongside the class of travel.

If the ticket status is showing as RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) or as a Waitlisted status, then it is printed on the ticket.  One can reserve the tickets up to 60 days in advance excluding the journey date at the originating station of train.  In case of the intermediate stations where the trains disembark the next day, reservation can be done up to 61 days in advance.   However, the no of days of booking the tickets in advance is less in intercity day express trains.

One can board the train with Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) ticket and it means that initially one will be offered a sitting accommodation and later on a berth is allotted if any passenger does not turn up for travel.

Indian Railways Reservation StatusIn case of passenger who gets the Waitlisted ticket, one needs to check the status of ticket prior to board the train.  If the status of the Waitlisted ticket is not confirmed or upgraded to RAC, then it is advised that passenger should not board the reserved coaches.  One may be fined and detrained if found to be in reserved coaches with waitlisted tickets.

One may upgrade the tickets from the lower class to higher class for the same train and date; however it is subjected to the availability of accommodation in higher class.  This upgrading of class of accommodation can be done only after the collection of fresh reservation charges and the difference of the fares between the two classes.  It may also be done during the course of journey by contacting the Travelling Ticket Examiner.

Travel is the best way to get away from any kind of stress that you face in your mundane life. Some travel for leisure, while some for work and while some travel for functions and festivals. Railways Reservation Forms Travelling by Indian railways has relatively become an easier job with the advent in the technology; you can sit in the luxuries of your house and gather all the information that is required for travelling. But however this technology is available only to a selected few, of course the number of such people is growing on a continuous pace but there is still a huge population of people who still has to get used to this information

Reservation Form.

The first thing that you need to do while opting for a travel is check for the reservation. As said before for people who have access to technology can use the website, but those who are not still accustomed to it, they need to fill in the reservation form. This form is typically called the reservation and the cancellation form as both of them can be done using the same form. Few details need to be filled in the form and this can be produced at the reservation counter for procuring tickets.

The first of the details that needs to be filled are, whether you are a medicinal practitioner and whether you are a senior citizen. The first is needed so that in case of any emergency you can contacted and the second is used for discounts to senior citizen.

The next details that you need to fill are more train related details like the Train no & the name, the date of Journey when you planning to make the travel, the class which you are planning to travel by, Seat and berth required – a minimum of only tickets can be booked at a given time. The station name for the source and the destination station, station where the boarding takes place and till where is the reservation required up to. Many a times the boarding station is different from the source destination that you have mentioned, hence you need to specify the boarding location.

Once the trains details are over, you need to mention the personal details like the name and the age of the passengers. Please note that per reservation forms one can only get tickets for 6 passengers. If there are children below the age of 5 then you will need to specify the details in the next column. You will need to write your name and address and further details if you wish for a return journey. Sign the reservation form and mention the telephone number, your reservation form is done and is ready for submission.

Though, this may require time it is definitely better than getting it done thorough touts and agents.

Railways have their own site www.indianrail.gov.in, this site will give you the details of all that you wanted to know about trains. A sister site of Indian railways www.irctc.co.in will help you to book the tickets. Few things that you need to remember before booking the tickets are:-

Railway Reservation System · Check for availability in all the trains that falls under your destined route. This is a very simple task and can be done using IRCTC website. The idea behind the check is that you get a confirmed ticket and not a Waiting list or RAC tickets.

· For traveling during the vacation time, it is always advisable to get the tickets booked 90 days before the actual due date. During the summer seasons in India, the travel of the most of the people along with their kids to their home town is a regular feature and hence its peak. Therefore if your travel plans are between April to June get the reservation on the day when it is open for the general public to book.

· In case if your ticket booked has status has waiting list, then keep checking the reservation status of the same on a regular basis. And if need be, would recommend getting the Tatkal services to be used, at least one can ensure of a confirmed seat in the train.

· If the status of the ticket that is booked is RAC (reservation against cancellation), keep a check on the reservation status for this. There are more than 90% chances that it will confirm and you will get a berth. But however these details will be available to you only 3 hours before the train departs. Hence it is always necessary to check the status on the net after the chart has been up, you will get to know your berth number.

· Ticket reservation have some concessions which are provided to kids under 12 years, senior citizens, physically handicapped, Railway personnel, Army men and others. Check these details too as this will help you to reduce the cost considerably.

· Check for the train facilities. Before reserving the tickets it is always recommended to check for the facilities available in the train like pantry car available, AC coaches’ facilities and etc. Especially if the journeys are long it is better to check the details.

For any other kind of reservation queries you can always check the railway site or visit the source station for any details on the same. Railways also have their own customer helpline number and you can call them in case of any queries.

PNR System, An Easy Way Out for Railways

January 3rd, 2011 Comments off

With the advent of technology, lots of things have been changing around us. Life is getting comfortable with things being available at the click of the mouse or just by dialing on the phone. So has life at Indian Railways, the long queues at the reservation counters are now done away with and are now available at the click of the mouse. Technology has also embraced the Indian railways in a big way. Sometimes, we may sit and wonder as to how the whole system works in Railways, as we are aware that at the same time, someone is doing the booking for the same train on the same date and class. Well the Indian Railways has very efficiently drawn up the system of PNR which stands for Passenger Name Record. Let’s get in detail to know more about PNR.

PNR System The minute you end up booking a ticket, a unique number is generated for each of the tickets that has been booked. The same number cannot be generated at some other counter, or through some other online sites. This number is useful for us to track the details of the tickets, to claim any refund from the railways. A search for this number at any of the railway site or railway counter will let you know the details like train used for traveling, date of travel and how many tickets have been booked under it. A maximum of only six tickets can be booked under a single PNR number.

PNR number forms a very important means for tracking the status of the ticket, if while booking the status comes across as W/L (Waiting List) or RAC (Reservation against Cancellation). If the status of the ticket is confirmed, then there is no need to track the PNR number. However when the travel date is nearing, and you need to know the status of the ticket, all you need to do is key in your PNR number on the Indian Railways site under the quick links “PNR Status” and get your status checked. This detail will keep you realistically updated about your travel plans. In case, the waiting list that you have received doesn’t seem to moving, then you can always look for alternative means of travel. One can either resort to traveling on some other date, or get a Tatkal done if the travel plans can’t be delayed then.

That was for Waiting list tickets; however PNR also helps in for tickets where the status is RAC. This is nothing but you get your tickets confirmed when anyone from the confirmed list cancels the tickets. The ideal time to check the RAC status is just 3 hours before the journey, when the charts are put. You can key in your PNR number on the Indian railways site or you can text across the PNR number over a mobile phone and get the details checked.

Thus you see, this ten digit number has been doing most of the work for railways. The whole system of railways is dependent on this single number.
