Season Ticket Monthly Booking, Online Booking – Season Ticket Fares

Indian Railways also offers the facility of the season tickets and it is provided for the first class (FC) and second (2S) classes of travel. Various types of season tickets available through Internet include Quarterly and monthly season tickets.  Charges for the Quaterly season ticket are applied at 2.7 times of the fare of normal season ticket which is rounded off to the subsequent higher multiple of Rs 5.

Indian Railway Reservation Season TicketCurrently season ticket booking through internet is not applicable for child/student/other concessional tickets. It is permissible only for Adult passengers. One needs to visit the IRCTC website to locate the station codes for various stations. Customer is required to select the source as well as destination stations from the dropdown list provided on webpage. Station names in addition to the station codes are listed in the drop down menu box.

In order to exercise the internet railway reservation facility, one needs to get registered online by completing the personal details and submitting the Registration Form on web site.  One is required to select the Mumbai suburban season ticket facility during the registration process in order to book season tickets via www.irctc.co.in.

No extra charges need to pay for the internet booking of season tickets and service charges for all the classes is Nil. Currently one cannot modify the details of the ticket through this site. Tickets are delivered to the customer by courier at the specified address.  There are limited places where the delivery of season ticket can be made through courier

Railway Reservation TicketOne should book the season tickets two or three calendar days in advance from the date of journey so that they can be delivered in time by the courier. One can track the delivery status of the ticket by submitting the STR No in the place “Track Your Ticket” on the website. In addition to that one can also contact the local courier office using the address / phone numbers provided on website.

Indian Railways offers the facility of booking Circular Journey Tickets for those passengers who love to go on a sightseeing or pilgrimage at various places. These tickets are primarily meant for providing the flexibility in travel as they are issued for all journeys excluding regular journey which start and finish at the same station.

Journey Tickets Circular journey Tickets can be bought for all the classes of accommodation. They offer the maximum of eight break journeys on these tickets and in addition to that Zonal Railways also provide the standard Circular Journey Tickets that are designed to cover famous tourist destinations.  Each Zonal Railway also provides the details route, fare etc.

There are two options available for the persons who want to avail Circular Journey Ticket. One is to buy the tickets directly which covers the standard routes and other is to inform the Zonal Railways regarding the itihen tickets can be designed to suit one specific reqnerary and tuirement.

There are various benefits of booking a Circular Journey Ticket like getting the tickets at lower rates than regular fare, saving time and saving the inconvenience of booking tickets at each station during journey.

One needs to contact the Divisional Commercial Manager of the concerned station   submit the itinerary and then DCM will calculate the costs of journey and inform the station manager in a prescribed form.  One can buy Circular Journey Tickets by submitting this at the Booking Office of the starting station.

Journey TicketsOne needs to reserve the seats/berths after buying the Circular Journey Tickets at the Railway Reservation office so that the accommodation is reserved for different laps of the journey. Then one will receive the booked journey ticket for the journey.

In case of Senior citizens there is 30% concession on the cost of the Circular Journey Tickets is granted provided they travel the minimum distance of 1000 kms.

Student Concession Railways – Railway Student Concession

Indian Railways provides the Student Concession facilities for the students under various categories. It is allowed only in Sleeper Class and 2nd Sitting I tickets.  Students can exchange only I-tickets with student concession by showing the I-ticket and the valid student concession order to the adjacent Railway Reservation Office.

Student concessionStudent need to visit the reservation office and carry journey cum reservation ticket with an appeal for exchanging it with the student concession. Student is required to submit his/her original totally paid ticket and a student concession ticket with the revised charge will be issued to him/her.

The Student Concession tickets are allowed only in Sleeper Class (SL) and 2nd Sitting (2S) and currently it is not allowed to e-tickets. The difference of paid and payable fare less the clerk age fare of Rs. 20 is refunded and credited electronically to student’s account on the following day by IRCTC on receiving the refund file.

The percentage element of concession for the single journey tickets(2nd and SL) and season tickets(2nd and 1st) for students for going to hometown and educational tours is 50% in General Category and 75% in SC/ST category. Girls up to Graduation and boys up to 12th standard are permitted to travel free between home & school using the second class.

The percentage element of concession for the single journey tickets using the second class for students of Govt. schools in rural areas for study tour once a year is 75%.

The percentage element of concession for the single journey tickets using the second class for entrance exam of Girls of Govt. schools in rural areas, for national level for medical, engineering entrance exam, etc is 75%.

Student concessionThe percentage element of concession for the single journey tickets using the second class and sleeper class for Students and non-students participating in Work Camps is 25%.

The percentage element of concession for the single journey tickets using the second class and sleeper class for Research scholars up to the age of 35 years for journeys in connection with research work is 50%.

The railway reservation fee and supplementary charges (superfast trains) for different accommodation classes are as follows:

AC 1st Reservation Fees is Rs. 35 and the supplementary charges for superfast trains is Rs. 50. Reservation Fee for journeys originating from a different station than the place of issue is Rs. 50

AC Chair Car Reservation Fees is Rs. 25 and the supplementary charges for superfast trains are Rs. 30. Reservation Fee for journeys originating from a different station than the place of issue is Rs. 40

Sleeper (Mail/Express) Reservation Fees is Rs. 20 and the supplementary charges for superfast trains are Rs. 20.

Second Sitting (Mail/Express) Reservation Fees is Rs. 15 and the supplementary charges for superfast trains are Rs. 10.

Sleeper (Ordinary) Reservation Fees is Rs. 20 and the supplementary charges for superfast trains are Nil. Reservation Fee for journeys originating from a different station than the place of issue is Rs. 30

Second Sitting (Ordinary) Reservation Fees is Rs. 15 and the supplementary charges for superfast trains are Nil. Reservation Fee for journeys originating from a different station than the place of issue is Rs. 25.

Additional reservation fee applicable in total chargeable fares in case of Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains are as follows:

Reservation Seats
Rajdhani Express trains: The additional charges for AC First, AC 2-Tier, AC 3-Tier, AC Chair Car is Rs. 20.

Shatabdi Express trains: The additional charges for Executive, AC Chair Car is Rs. 20.

Jan Shatabdi Express trains: The additional charges for Second class are 15 and AC Chair Car is Rs. 20.

Exemption from reservation fees payment is applicable for officers and staff of the Railway and P&T department, MPs travelling on Identity Card and Military Officers travelling on free warrants. Similarly exemption from supplementary charges is applied on Railway Staff travelling on duty passes, privilege passes and PTOs, tourist holding Indrail passes and MPs travelling on Identity Card.

Refund Rules – Indian Railways Refund Charges

Unused Tickets with no reservation:  In case of cancellation of the ticket for which no reservation for seat or birth is done and it is submitted within three hours past the actual departure of the train or for a cancellation of ticket valid for the whole day and submitted within three hours past the actual departure of the train, then refund is made for such ticket after deducting Rs 20 per passenger for clerikage.

RefundUnused tickets with reservation:  In case of ticket where reservation is done and then it is submitted for cancellation then refund is done after deducting the cancellation charges.  If a ticket is submitted 24 hours prior to scheduled departure of train then cancellation charges for A.C First Class and Executive Class are Rs 70, for A.C. 2 Tier, A.C. 3 Tier, First class and A.C CC is Rs 60, for sleeper class is Rs 40 and for second class is Rs 20.

If the ticket is submitted within 24 hours and up to four hours prior the scheduled departure of the train, cancellation charges are 25% of the journey fare which is subject to the minimum flat rate.

If the ticket is submitted within four hours prior the scheduled departure and up to 3 hours (destination station is 200 KM), up to six hours (destination station is between 200 KM and 500KM), up to twelve hours (destination more than 500 KM) after the departure of train then cancellation charges are 50% of the journey fate which is subject to the minimum flat rate.

Rules for RefundAfter the expiry of the mentioned period, no refund is granted at station for cancellation of tickets. In such cases where the night train leaves between 21:00 hours and 06:00 hours then refunds will be granted at the station within the specified time limit or within four hours of railway reservation office opening.

Unused waitlisted or RAC tickets: In case of waitlisted or RAC ticket is submitted for cancellation then no cancellation charges will be given up to 3 hours (destination station is 200 KM), up to six hours (destination station is between 200 KM and 500KM), up to twelve hours (destination more than 500 KM) after the train departure except for deduction for Rs 20 for clerkage.

Refund on partially used tickets: In case of partially utilized tickets where in a passenger ends his journey enroute, the station master issue a ticket deposit receipt and the refund is managed by the chief commercial manager (Refunds).

Rules for RefundRefund due to late running of trains: In this case there is no cancellation charge or clerk age is applied and all passengers are entitled for refund of complete fare. It includes the passengers having Reserved, RAC, and Waitlisted tickets.

It is applied in cases where journey is not undertaken because of late running of the train by over 3 hours of the scheduled departure. Here the ticket needs to be submitted with in the maximum time limits.

Refund in case of unavailable accommodation: In this case complete refund of fares is granted where the railway administration is not capable to give accommodation for any cause whatsoever to passengers having reserved tickets. Here the tickets need to be cancelled within three hours of train departure.

In case of accidents, breaches or a flood, if the train is cancelled then complete refund is granted within three days that exclude the scheduled departure day.

Refund in case of failure of Air Conditioning equipment: In this case when the air-conditioning did not work for a portion of the travel, the refund is granted at the destination station provided the certificate from the guard is shown and the ticket is offered within twenty hours of the train arrival.

Rules for Refund

In case of AC first class, the difference among the fares of AC first class and first class mail is refunded. In case of AC 2 tier sleeper or AC 3 tier sleeper class, the difference amid the fares of AC 2 tier/AC 3 tiers and the sleeper class mail /express is refunded.

In case of AC chair car class the difference amid the fares of AC chair car class and second class mail/express is refunded. In case of Executive class of Shatabdi trains, the difference amid the fares of notified executive and first class mail/express is refunded.

Break Journey Rules

Indian Railways offers the facility of break journey for those passengers who hold the single journey tickets for distance of over 500kms.  These passengers are permitted to break journey only once for maximum of two days at any station en-route. In order to avail this facility, one needs to travel 500 Kms from the starting station.

Break JourneyIn case the ticket is for over 1000Kms, then the passenger is permitted to break the journey twice at any station en route. For calculating the number of days for first break of journey, day of arrival and departure are excluded.  It is mandatory in any case to get the ticket endorsed by the station manager /ticket collector at the en route station where the break journey is planned.

Break journey facility is not offered for Rajdhani/Shatbadi/Jan shatbadi express trains. Passenger need to intimate regarding the break journey details at the time of original booking.  Two break journeys allowed for passengers travelling over 1000 Kms according to their choice for the maximum period of two days at each station en route of break of journey.

For example if a passenger holding the ticket of single journey for 600 kms is allowed once to break journey for the period of two days once he covered the distance of over 500 kms. In case a passenger has single journey ticket of 2000 Kms he is permitted to break journey twice after travelling the distance of 500 Kms from starting station.

Rules of Break JourneyIn cases where a passenger detrains at a station en-route in order to catch a connecting train, it is not regarded as a break journey considering the halt remains less than 24 hours.  Ticket endorsement should include the Station Master’s Initials, date and Station Code.  Also passengers opting for breaking their journey except as mentioned above are required to surrender their tickets at the station where they break their journey.

Luggage Rules, Luggage Booking Rules, Fares

Indian Railways has prescribed certain rules regarding carrying the luggage in trains during travel. Luggage which cannot be completely and legibly identified in English or Hindi language is not permitted for carriage by train. One needs to ensure that the luggage should be securely packed otherwise it will not be permitted for carriage and booking unless the sender or his agent submits a forwarding note about the defects or improper packing.

Luggage RulesLuggage needs to be presented at least 30 minutes before scheduled train departure at the booking office in case the owner is travelling by the same train. In case a passenger is seeking advance railway reservation then he is allowed to book the luggage in advance at the same time.

If a package is weighs above 100 Kgs or exceeds 1m*1m*0.7m in outside measurement then bulky surcharge is applied to it. Bulky surcharge is usually levied at twice the normal rate. Nasty articles, inflammable, explosive, dangerous articles, empty gas cylinders, acids and other corrosive substance are not allowed to be booked as luggage.

The outside measurement of 100 cms. x 60 cms x 25 cms of suitcase, trunks  and boxes are permitted in the passenger compartments to be carried as personal luggage.  Merchandized items are not allowed for carriage and booking as personal luggage in the compartment.

Patients under medical supervision with certificate are allowed to carry oxygen cylinder with its stand in all classes.  Oxygen cylinder and its stand are granted free allowance of luggage.  In case of luggage of larger dimension, brake van is used to carry it.

The Maximum quantity permitted including free allowance, free allowance, marginal allowance for the various classes of accommodation are as follows :

Ac first Class : The Free allowance is 70 Kgs, marginal allowance is 15 Kgs and Maximum quantity permitted including free allowance is 150 Kgs.

Sleeper class : The Free allowance is 40 Kgs, marginal allowance is 10 Kgs and Maximum quantity permitted including free allowance is 80 Kgs.

Second class : The Free allowance is 35 Kgs, marginal allowance is 10 Kgs and Maximum quantity permitted including free allowance is 70 Kgs.

Indian Railway I-Ticket, Indian Railways I -Ticket Booking

Indian Railway offers the facility of booking the tickets online via IRCTC website and gets the tickets delivered at home. This ticket is known as I-ticket. One needs to book the I-ticket at least two or three calendar days before the date of journey as time will be required to courier the ticket to one’s home.

Indian Railway Reservation I-TicketThe ticket will be sent by courier to the address registered on the IRCTC website or to the address mentioned at the time of booking.  I-ticket will be sent in the name of the person who has booked the ticket and as of now the facility of changing the name of the recipient does not exist.  One can reserve an I-ticket even if the status of the online reservation is showing as ‘waiting list’.

IRCTC applies a service charge of Rs.40/- per ticket for booking of Second Class and Sleeper Class tickets and Rs.60/- per ticket for booking of other classes. In addition to service charges, bank also charge transaction charges for each such transaction.

IRCTC is a VeriSign certified site and one can click on the VeriSign logo in order to check the certificate. Monetary transactions through this site are secure. Site received the details of the credit card and transmits it to the Payment Gateways. It is transmitted through secure SSL mode with 128-bit encryption that is browser independent. No record of the credit card details is stored on this site Payment Gateways handle the transactions.

Indian Railway Reservation I-TicketCancellation of the I-ticket is not possible online as of now. It can be done at various PRS counters of Railway Reservation Office. Also there is no cash refund made at the counter.  After deducting the applicable cancellation charges, refund is credited back electronically to one’s credit card / bank account.

Customers can reserve the tickets from across the globe; however it is delivered the cities mentioned on the IRCTC website. One can even specify the address of a Hotel, address of a friend / relative if case it lies in the area of delivery, however one need to present authority letter to receive the ticket on behalf of the customer who has booked the tickets.

Indian Railway E –ticket, Indian Railway E-Ticket Booking

Indian Railway offers the facility of booking the tickets online and prints the electronic reservation slip (ERS).  In this case E-ticket will be not be sent by courier at home. One is required to take a print of the ticket as an electronic reservation slip which will appear after reserving the ticket on the website.

Indian Railway Reservation E –ticketE-ticket can be reserved only if the seat/berth is RAC or is confirmed. One can reserve the ticket even on the date of journey till the time of preparation of final reservation chart.  One is required to provide the details of personal Identification Document at the time of booking the tickets and it is mandatory to carry the same personal Identification document while travelling along with the printout of the ticket.

Personal identification document may include Driving license, Passport, Voter Id Card, PAN card and Photo identity cards issued by Central/State Government for their employees.

Cancellation of the E-Ticket Railway Reservations can be done only on the Internet till the time of preparation of final Chart and it is not permissible at any Railway Counters. The time of preparation of chart is normally 4 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the train from originating station. Customer can log on to www.irctc.co.in and need to visit the Booked Tickets link. After that customer needs to select the ticket to be cancelled and the passengers to be cancelled.

Indian Railway Reservation E –ticketOne can confirm the cancellation of E-tickets online and the refund is done by way of crediting the amount directly to the account utilized for booking. In case of a partial cancellation of ticket, customer needs to print the modified electronic reservation slip separately.

IRCTC applies a service charge of Rs.10 per ticket for Second/Sleeper class and RS.20 per ticket for Higher Class for the first passenger and an additional RS.5 per ticket for every following passenger up to a maximum of Rs.25 per ticket for Second/Sleeper and RS.40 per ticket for Higher Class.

The timings for the booking hours are as 4.00 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. on weekdays and on Sundays it extends from 4.00 am to 8.00 pm.
