Indian Railway E –ticket, Indian Railway E-Ticket Booking
Indian Railway offers the facility of booking the tickets online and prints the electronic reservation slip (ERS). In this case E-ticket will be not be sent by courier at home. One is required to take a print of the ticket as an electronic reservation slip which will appear after reserving the ticket on the website.
E-ticket can be reserved only if the seat/berth is RAC or is confirmed. One can reserve the ticket even on the date of journey till the time of preparation of final reservation chart. One is required to provide the details of personal Identification Document at the time of booking the tickets and it is mandatory to carry the same personal Identification document while travelling along with the printout of the ticket.
Personal identification document may include Driving license, Passport, Voter Id Card, PAN card and Photo identity cards issued by Central/State Government for their employees.
Cancellation of the E-Ticket Railway Reservations can be done only on the Internet till the time of preparation of final Chart and it is not permissible at any Railway Counters. The time of preparation of chart is normally 4 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the train from originating station. Customer can log on to www.irctc.co.in and need to visit the Booked Tickets link. After that customer needs to select the ticket to be cancelled and the passengers to be cancelled.
One can confirm the cancellation of E-tickets online and the refund is done by way of crediting the amount directly to the account utilized for booking. In case of a partial cancellation of ticket, customer needs to print the modified electronic reservation slip separately.
IRCTC applies a service charge of Rs.10 per ticket for Second/Sleeper class and RS.20 per ticket for Higher Class for the first passenger and an additional RS.5 per ticket for every following passenger up to a maximum of Rs.25 per ticket for Second/Sleeper and RS.40 per ticket for Higher Class.
The timings for the booking hours are as 4.00 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. on weekdays and on Sundays it extends from 4.00 am to 8.00 pm.

In case of cancellation of Tatkal reservation tickets, a flat refund of 25% of total fare charged is granted and it excludes the Tatkal Charges. Time limit for cancelling the Tatkal tickets is 24 hrs prior to the schedule departure of train.
